The Japan Association of Teachers and Researchers in Asia proudly presents The International Research Methods Workshop geared towards scholars and practitioners who aim to prepare for international conferences in Japan. The research methods workshop conducted by the Japan Association of Teachers and Researchers in Asia is a great opportunity for scholars and practitioners alike to gain hands on applied research skills in a cross-cultural environment of Japan. This international workshop is conducted to prepare researchers and practitioners from all around the world in order to gain valuable insights before presenting at international conferences in Japan.
OBJECTIVES
After participating this workshop you will be able to
  • Understand the basic concepts of science, scientific methods, positivism and the philosophy of science.
  • Get a good sense of fundamentals of research methods in applied social sciences and natural sciences
  • Gain the skills of connecting theories and research methods in social sciences and natural sciences
  • Distinguish scientific and pseudo-scientific and non-scientific information sources
  • Author a comprehensive, focused and accurate literature review
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the selection and use of appropriate sampling methods to solve varying research problems
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of common statistical methods such as t-tests and regression analyses
  • Smoothly conduct a survey study and individually write a research paper following academic and scientific guidelines

The scientific method and the philosophy of science
Introduction to research methods
Secondary data analysis and literature review
DAY II
Research design and sampling
Hypothesis building and questionnaire design
Case study, survey studies, experiments
DAY III
Common Data Analysis Methods
Independent samples T-test
Bivariate correlation Analysis (Pearson)
DAY IV
Qualitative Research methods
The APA style and writing research reports
How to present and publish academic papers
DAY V
Review
Closing ceremony
 
INSTRUCTORS
Your instructor will be selected from the pool of instructors who are members of ATERA. The instructors have a PhD, international background, and at least 10 years of teaching experience.
QUALIFICATION FOR THE WORKSHOP
Both academicians and practitioners can apply to the program. The applicants must have at least a masters degree or be currently enrolled in a post-graduate program.

We will get back to you regarding your application promptly and  we wil send you an acceptance letter. We will also send you a secure link to pay the participation fee.
Participation fee: $400
Step 3: Participate in the workshop
 CERTIFICATION
After successfully completing the workshop, you will be given a certificate by ATERA that certifies you fulfilled all the requirements of the workshop and gained the skills necessary for the area of study.
LOCATION
Workshops are usually held in the Japan Conference Centre of Maikoya Osaka. Maikoya Osaka is conveniently located in Shinsaibashi Osaka only 40-minute ride from the Kansai International Airport.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU APPLY
  • We do not sponsor any participant. Our acceptance letter cannot be used to obtain a visa to Japan.
  • You can get more information about our organization here
  • Please bring your own lap top, we may not be able to provide you with a computer.
  • Please make your hotel accommodation as early as possible. Hotels in Japan get to be fully booked often especially during the peak season.
  •  The participation fee does not cover your meals.
